Through volunteer work, we dedicate our time, organize and gather experts who encourage children to think differently, be creative, express themselves and create. Through this contribution to society, we want to make young people aware that they do not have to be aimless or lose the purpose of life or what they do, that they can say NO to depression, that they should think of others, that there is a solution for everything, that it is okay to say how they feel, and that everyone is creative in their essence….
We would like them to understand that in this modern society, they will do a lot better for themselves and the environment if they take a break from their chairs, cell phones, or computers for part of the day and help their mom in the vegetable garden or make jams, or if they develop a love for physical work that is both recreation and a great experience.
For example, through workshops related to the vegetable garden, the focus is on making children aware of the entire process, from preparatory work (making a garden, raised beds, compost heaps, etc.) and sowing seeds or planting seedlings, all the way to picking the fruits. It is important to understand the processes that occur between sowing or planting and picking the fruits, both in the garden and in our lives – in everything we do/create. Sometimes the rich harvest that we have worked hard for will be disrupted by winds, storms, droughts, pests, vandals, etc. It is the same in children’s lives – sometimes things will not go smoothly, but they need to learn to deal with all the challenges, just as a farmer who loves what he does does not immediately waver, but works persistently and with purpose. The purpose is to harvest the fruits at the end of the process, but also to know how to deal with easy and difficult periods.
Nowadays, children are mostly used to getting things without much effort. The biggest ‘effort’ for most city children is studying and going to one or more extracurricular activities. The goal is to encourage in them the desire to create and appreciate what they receive, but also what they make/produce themselves. We want to instill in them the principle of gratitude, as well as the spirit of entrepreneurship, as the opposite of inertia, passivity, inactivity and getting everything ‘on a platter’.
Our target groups are also adults, but also older people and retirees whom we would like to teach various skills, or remind them of their younger days if they had vegetable gardens or embroidered/knitted. We want to emphasize the advantages of growing their own vegetables and fruits, or what benefits it has for them (physical work – recreation, socialization, healthy eating, etc.). Useful physical work also activates different muscle groups and strengthens the body’s musculature. It is important to know how to perform movements correctly when performing everyday activities, as well as to exercise in the right way, in order to preserve joints, bones, prevent pain, etc.
The planned cycle of workshops “From Seed to Fruit” with an emphasis on the journey is related to the topics of vegetable gardens, forests, plant processes in general, as well as various other creative and appropriate workshops that aim to encourage, raise awareness, and educate participants about processes in nature that are applicable to our lives.
The workshops will also include experts from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, horticulture, forestry, permaculture, pedagogy, kinesiology, design, hospitality, as well as long-time artists and members of various associations, with whom we will create a quality platform for contributing to society.
